Welsh international Beth Fisher becomes LGBT Sport Cymru’s first ambassador
Beth Fisher, an athlete that represents Wales in the international hockey arena, has become the first ambassador for LGBT Sport Cymru.
LGBT Sport Cymru is a movement that focuses on highlighting, promoting and supporting sport and physical activity opportunities for the LGBT community, in Wales.
Beth Fisher has taken to writing a blog about being gay in sport and using the confidence she’s nurtured within the sport to deal with other issues she’s had to face.
In the blog Beth has written:
The fact I am gay isn’t because I play sport. I was born gay just like people are born straight. I happen to play hockey, just like I happen to read books and watch TV. I know plenty of people who are gay who don’t play sport and I know lots straight people who play sport.
It’s an excellent read and certainly an inspirational one for anyone who plays sport in general, but especially people who may be struggling with coming to terms with their own identity.
