On Bank Holiday Monday 28th August 2017, Carlisle Hockey Club are holding a charity hockey match in order to raise funds for The Oddballs Foundation.
Why is this happening? Well, Carlisle Hockey Club are holding this game to remember a former member who sadly passed away due to testicular cancer and to ensure they raise awareness of the disease. The club are working with The Oddballs Foundation to raise money in support of their cause.
What does this actually mean? Let’s get some context by looking at some key facts:
- Around 2,200 men are diagnosed with testicular cancer each year in the UK.
- Testicular cancer is unusual compared to other cancers because it tends to affect younger men.
- Although it’s relatively uncommon overall, testicular cancer is the most common type of cancer to affect men between the ages of 15 and 49. It is this age range that makes up most of our men’s section.
